AGI Transport SIG
The AGI Transport Special Interest Group aims to promote the development of GI within the context of transport.
Management of transport-related information is vital to the effective planning and on-going operation of both passenger and freight transport. As the operation of our transport networks become more critical to society and the economy, information management will play an increasing role. Geography and location are at the core of many of the issues currently confronting the transport industry. We need to understand the importance and role of geographic information within this process and how these can bring efficiencies in the planning and operations of transport.
The Transport SIG aims to promote:
- best practice in the application of geographic information
- the role and understanding of spatial information in the transport sector
- the value to transport organisations of geographic information
- standards and processes for adopting geographic information across all transport market sectors
- efficiency and effectiveness of our transport infrastructure through geographic information
- act as a forum to represent the interests of GI professionals working with the transport sector
Attend the Transport SIG to make sure your professional knowledge is enhanced. Whether you are involved in transport operations, data management, software development or planning, you will be welcomed at our meetings where you can:
- grow your network of industry colleagues and share issues and experience
- keep abreast of the latest developments and understand their impact
- build your appreciation of GI within other part of the transport sector
- understand the future policy and technology implications so your can help your organisation readily adopt.
The Transport SIG is open to all members of the AGI wishing to contribute to the development of geographic information. In recognition of the diversity of modes and operators in the transport market (both national and international), we encourage all to participate and help shape the growth and development of the Transport SIG.
If you are in the transport industry and have a geographic context to your business, the Transport SIG should be an important resource to participate within.
Events:
The Transport SIG is planning a series of events. Meetings will be organised enabling GI professionals (and indeed those with an interest in the use of the technology) to network with professionals working within the industry. Our meetings will either be on-site at transport organisations, often combined with a range of interesting speaker presentations.
