For more than a decade the AGI Conference and Exhibition has been the centre-piece of the GI professional's year and the flagship event for the AGI. As the usage of GIS has spread through Central and Local Government to Utilities, Infrastructure, Insurance, Marketing, Retail and broader Business Intelligence, the conference has grown to the largest and broadest ranging GI event in the UK.

As a format introduced in 2007, AGI GeoCommunity '08 will be a residential conference designed to bring together practitioners, academics, policy makers and suppliers with thought leaders from the UK and overseas. The conference will provide an opportunity for its participants to learn from their peers, train and debate policy and technology issues, plus build relationships through networking. The theme of the conference will be 'Shaping a Changing World'. AGI GeoCommunity '08 takes the success of 2007 and plans to build on that.

The conference will run from 24th to 25th September 2008 in Stratford-upon-Avon. In the evening of the 23rd September, a pre-conference 'icebreaker' event will also be run at the same venue for early arrivals. As in 2007 highly competitive delegate rates, including all accommodation and meals, should attract a larger than ever attendance from across the public and private sectors. On the night of the first day of the conference, delegates will enjoy a party buffet dinner and entertainment plus a range of competitions and activities.

Last year AGI 2007 attracted 500 delegates and post-event research showed that:
  • Over 90% of both delegates and sponsors said the new conference format better met their requirements.
  • 68% of delegates and 75% of sponsors want the conference to stay in the Midlands.
  • Over 90% of delegates attend for learning & training. Hands-on training and workshops were extremely well received.
  • 89% of delegates and 100% of sponsors attend for the networking opportunity.
  • 87% like the informal nature of the event.

Whilst the 2008 conference venue, The Holiday Inn, Stratford upon Avon, remains the same, the whole complex is being hired offering greater flexibility and capacity. In particular AGI believes that the increased space and flexibility from being the sole occupants of the hotel will enable AGI to provide better facilities and more options to our sponsors and delegates.

This year's conference will also offer a limited number of sponsors' spaces to showcase new products and services and meet with delegates at their exhibition pods. The conference format will offer our sponsors an unmatched opportunity to achieve close contact with the key participants and influencers in our industry.

'GI makes a significant contribution to efficient and effective government and adds value to many commercial sectors. In our world of change, disruption, challenge and opportunity our industry is increasingly helping shape our activities. AGI GeoCommunity '08 is about recognizing this and sharing our experience and vision. AGI believes that as in 2007, the conference will provide an excellent opportunity to celebrate success, share experience, inform and debate policy', stated Conference Chairman, Steven Feldman.
