What is the Environmental Special Interest Group?

The Environmental Special Interest Group (ENVSIG) is an established group of over 400 members within the AGI. This is a very active SIG, organising meetings and visits for its members, keeping members informed through its web pages, and assisting AGI at the annual conference etc.

The ENVSIG's mission is to facilitate the application of Geographic Information Systems to natural environment issues and related information, through the following objectives :-

  • Provision of advice on the potential of GIS in the implementation of existing policies.
  • Liaise with other environmental groups, nationally and internationally.
  • Increase awareness of GIS applications in the natural environment and its relationship with the built environment.
  • Facilitate access to environmental information, both analogue and digital.
  • Act and advise any existing and future environmental agency on the need, content, cost and quality of environmental data.

The Committee

The Committee (From Left to Right): Lisa Thomas, Kay Pallaris, Robert Brown, David Tong, Emma Bee (Chair), Tim Brewer, Abigail Page, Angharad Stone

To help us meet these objectives there is a committee which meets quarterly to discuss and organise future activities of the SIG.

We are always looking for new members and committee members, so if you would like to join the Environmental SIG or are interested in a committee position then please contact the SIG chair, Emma Bee or any other committee member.
