    This newly created LINZ role is an opportunity to be a part of the development of strategic direction for the LINZ topographic database and mapping business and delivering results through your team.

    The role responsibilities will include:

    • Developing and implementing a 5-10 year strategic plan for the team
    • Providing a business planning framework and driving planning and performance activities for the Topographic team
    • Engaging with stakeholders in public, private and third sector to determine their needs
    • Driving the team to deliver on stakeholder and user expectations
    • Coaching and leading the team

    The successful candidate will have:

    • Experience in business planning and business development
    • Demonstrated experience in team leadership and change management
    • Proven strong strategic vision
    • Exceptional relationship building skills and a customer focus
    • Technical understanding and knowledge of information technology, ideally gained in topographic mapping, GIS, and/or remote sensing domains
    • Familiarity with, and an understanding of, Governance, public sector planning cycles, requirements and obligations (ideally)

    Description and Desired Qualifications
    Halcrow seeks an enthusiastic geospatial professional to join the UK team to help with the delivery of a number of key geospatial projects, the Senior GIS Analyst will partner closely with the Geospatial Practice Manager to help win work and provide technical expertise on both internal and external projects. A wide skill set is required and you will work closely with other Geospatial team members including specialists in remote sensing, data acquisition and processing, web development and 3D visualisation.

    The principal function of the role is to help lead the GIS team through project delivery, business development and provision of technical co-ordination and implementation of all technical aspects of GIS work. You will be the key point of contact for internal and external clients and Senior member of the team developing solutions for business requirements and contributing to bid / proposal writing with the Team Leader and Practice Manager.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Provide technical expertise and input to GIS related business development
    • Assemble project teams, assigning individual responsibilities, identifying appropriate resource needs, and developing a schedule to ensure timely completion of GIS related tasks and projects
    • Provide guidance, training and mentoring to other colleagues and act as a key technical GIS contact
    • Train other colleagues and clients in the use of GIS and spatial analysis
    • Development and maintenance of GIS quality assurance (data translation, data standards and data transfer protocols)
    • Data management including data capture and documentation, spatial data translation, data analysis and maintenance of spatial datasets
    • Preparation of cartographic outputs for reports, workshops, and marketing purposes

    Basic Qualifications
    The right candidate should have significant cross sector GIS experience with an emphasis on providing solutions from concept through to delivery with a major client of ours, the successful candidate must have:

    • Strong business development track record, client management skills – bid writing and presentation
    • In depth knowledge and experience of a range of GIS products and solutions (Desktop, Server, Database and Web)
    • In depth knowledge of Data and Metadata Standards; datasources; INSPIRE
    • An innovative approach to the application of current GI technologies
    • Advanced working knowledge of at least one mainstream GIS product suite
    • Good working knowledge of Opensource GIS products and application

    An ability to convey technical details to a non-technical audience will be looked upon highly and will be useful for business development activities.

    Technical competence in the below is required:

    • Usage of a variety of spatial data including Ordnance Survey mapping, remotely sensed imagery, and field collected data
    • Programming languages (ArcObjects VBA / .NET)
    • Web programming languages JavaScript, HTML
    • BSc Geography or related subject
    • Masters in GIS
    • Professional qualification preferred
