The INSPIRE Directive
INSPIRE (Infrastructure for Spatial Information in Europe) is an EU Directive that aims at making available relevant, harmonised and quality geographic information to support formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Community policies - particularly those relating to the environment.
INSPIRE Overview Document (UPDATED)
AGI recognises that INSPIRE aims are in accordance with the AGI mission statement and welcomes the initiative as a means of using GI to enable better decision making at local, national and European levels. In particular AGI welcomes the need for common standards, for some harmonisation and for some integration of GI across national boundaries. AGI's 10 year operation of the gigateway metadata portal within the UK has demonstrated a commitment to these ideals.
AGI established an INSPIRE Action Working Group in June 2007. This has helped AGI to respond to all INSPIRE consultations and has communicated developments to members via this website, through an email contact list and at various events across the country.
