SeaZone HydroSpatial Global is Now Available On-line at SeaZoneDirect.com

SeaZone HydroSpatial Global is now available on-line from the SeaZone shop http://www.SeaZoneDirect.com.  HydroSpatial Global is the first worldwide marine vector mapping product and is sourced from official hydrographic data providers.  It delivers complete and seamless coverage of the world’s oceans.

HydroSpatial Global is a medium to small scale marine vector mapping product with 31 feature types. It is delivered in eight degree tile extents and is offered at a price which makes global marine coverage truly affordable for organisations with a worldwide reach. It is ideal for those who need low cost background data coverage of the world. It takes only a few minutes for the data to be available to download once an order has been placed.

Hydrospatial Global is ideal for use as a marine spatial planning aid and decision support tool. It is applicable and available for use in regional, national and oceanic contexts and applications such as vessel tracking, regional seas management and operational oceanography. HydroSpatial Global performs well when interrogated by complex geo-processing or spatial analysis within a GIS.  For less demanding requirements, HydroSpatial Global represents an excellent low-resolution selectable back-drop, with flexible filtering and styling.

HydroSpatial Global forms a single mosaicked representation. It uses a comprehensive, intuitive feature and attribute data model, similar to the one used in its sister product HydroSpatial Base (which is also available from http://www.SeaZoneDirect.com). This allows the two products to be fully interoperable.

1Spatial & LSI Partnership Awarded Important U.S. Census Bureau Contract

1Spatial Software To Be Used in USA 2020 Decennial Census

Cambridge, UK, 9 January 2013, 1Spatial, a geospatial company which manages the world’s largest spatial data and its US partner, LSI, has signed a contract to supply the U.S. Census Bureau with licenses and associated services in preparations for supporting their Geographic Support System.

Through a long term engagement with the U.S. Census Bureau, 1Spatial and LSI have developed and designed an automated conflation process to bring together geospatial data from varied sources.  1Spatial’s agile approach to software development will enable the Census team to gain valuable iterative operational experience and work out efficiencies as the system develops.

The 1Spatial software is enterprise enabled for maximum efficiency and is scalable to provide high performance, whilst maintaining flexibility.  It has been designed to protect investment by enabling operators to capture data within a spatial rules engine and apply the knowledge gleaned consistently throughout the organisation.

“This is a large, complex and mission critical spatial database that is growing at 10-15% annually,” explained Tim Trainor, Geography Division Chief, U.S. Census Bureau.  “There are huge demands from the user community for spatial and temporal accuracy and quality, together with stringent processing deadlines.

We believe that 1Spatial and LSI’s solution will meet our expectations in contributing to an agile, Service Orientated Architecture”.

“We are delighted that the U.S. Census Bureau has seen the enormous value and benefits our solution can provide. The services provided by LSI and ourselves will enable the U.S. Census Bureau to gain maximum benefit and returns on its investment,” Marcus Hanke, CEO 1Spatial. “Drawing on proven ability to support National Mapping and Charting Agencies data management tasks, 1Spatial and LSI’s specialist consultancy and support teams will provide a real-world understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced when managing this level of spatial big data.”

“We have worked with 1Spatial on what we believe is a truly versatile solution that will provide the client with the virtualisation and flexibility they require and we look forward to moving forward with the project,” commented Mary Brauer-Cox, President of LSI.

The software and services will be utilised by the Geography Division as part of a new initiative in preparation for the 2020 Decennial Census. The Geography Division maintains the geographic base data upon which U.S. censuses and surveys are tabulated.

The Geographic Support System (GSS) Initiative is an integrated program of improved address coverage, continual spatial feature updates and enhanced assessment and measurement, which supports a targeted approach.  The Address Canvassing operation is one of several operations that precedes the national census in 2020.

The data from the 2020 decennial census will be used to:

  • determine the number of seats for the House of Representatives for each state
  • make decisions about the type of community services to provide
  • distribute more than $400 billion in Federal funds to local, state and tribal governments each year
  • provide Age Search information, for example for for qualifying benefits.

GeoPlace Sails Through ISO Audits

London, 11th January 2013 – As part of its commitment to continually improving the quality and security of the data it works with, the GeoPlace management team is dedicated to maintaining the organisation’s internationally recognised ISO standards: ISO27001 Information Security and ISO9001 Quality Management Standard.

Both of these standards have been applied to the whole of GeoPlace’s business, specifically the ‘Provision to the public and private sectors of information management and consultancy services, relating to address location identification and street information’.

In December 2012 GeoPlace successfully passed its latest ISO27001 Information Security audit, performed by external auditor Lloyds Register Quality Assurance. This was the fourth six-monthly external audit for this standard since achieving certification in October 2010, an unbroken period of over two years.

In addition, GeoPlace has also maintained its ISO9001 Quality Management Standard for over four years since achieving certification at the beginning of January 2009, and full recertification in January 2012.  LRQA again failed to find any non-conformances or other issues in their sixth ISO9001visit.

Richard Mason, Managing Director said “During the last two years, GeoPlace has experienced major business changes from the transition of Intelligent Addressing to GeoPlace, the development of the National Address Gazetteer and the move to new offices.   This together with the ever increasing amount of data that GeoPlace handles is a record of which the company is understandably proud.  Our partners can be assured that we have the robust business systems in place necessary to successfully deliver complex data solutions.”

Blom to Shine Light on Vegetation Interference on Power Lines

Blom will acquire and process laser data for the Italian national transmission network manager, Terna. The data, captured with LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging), will be used to identify interference caused by vegetation encroachment in and around powerline corridors.

In previous years identifying vegetation interference on powerlines has been carried out by direct observation. This is a time consuming activity, requiring experienced personnel to be on-site for many hours. Blom proposed an alternative process and Terna quickly realized that LiDAR data is a powerful and efficient methodology, ideally suited for this kind of application. It is expected that this method to identify vegetation interference will be regularly applied to the whole transmission grid in the future.

Blom will fly more than 1,000 km of transmission powerlines in various areas in Italy, simultaneously capturing LiDAR data and images for orthophoto production.

About Blom
The Blom Group is the largest provider of geospatial services in Europe for both government agencies and private commercial organizations and companies.
