Forth Valley GIS is proud to announce its success at the recent European SDI Best Practice Awards 2009. Forth Valley GIS was selected from 135 entries across 26 European countries as a best practice example of a Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) - a business framework that enables ready access to geographic information to support the improved delivery of public services.

The SDI Best Practice Award is part of the eSDI-Net+ project, a thematic network co-funded by the eContentplus Programme of the European Commission. It aims to bring together key European SDI stakeholders to share knowledge and to provide a platform for communication and knowledge exchange at all levels, from local to global.

Alan Moore, Chief Executive said, We are very proud to receive this Best Practice Award - this is a significant accomplishment within a European-wide context and reflects achievements of the whole team and support from our founding shareholders"". The eSDI-NET+ network identifies working" accessible and intelligible solutions as it communicates the purpose and aims of INSPIRE - the European Directive that aims to enable the sharing of geographic information among public sector organisations and facilitate better public access to spatial information across Europe.

Forth Valley GIS has established a unique innovative mature SDI solution - providing shared service access to geographic information across 3 local authorities and supporting information sharing with key community planning partners such as Local Government Police Health and Fire & Rescue services.
