25th May 2010, Cambridge, UK. His Royal Highness (HRH) The Duke of York visited 1Spatial today and officially opened its new headquarters on the Cambridge Business Park.
With a long-standing commitment to the economic prosperity of the UK, the Duke of York is the UK's Special Representative for International Trade and Investment. His role involves fostering innovation and enterprise and encouraging investment and improved conditions for UK organisations and businesses.
HRH, on a visit to the region, arrived and was greeted by Dr Michael Sanderson, Executive Chairman of 1Spatial, and was introduced to the Board of Directors. The introductions were followed by an overview of the 1Spatial Group, its past, present and future.
After the briefing, the Duke was escorted through the company’s new offices on the Cambridge Business Park, meeting current staff on his way. HRH was then introduced to a some of 1Spatial’s key customers and shown demonstrations of some of the work we are doing with them to help improve productivity, data quality and production timescales.
Following the presentations, Dr Sanderson invited the Duke to unveil a plaque marking the official opening of Tennyson House, the company’s new headquarters, in front of gathered staff and customers.

HRH left with a clear understanding of the efficiency savings that our solutions deliver to customers and the ways in which we can assist them at this difficult economic time."
Accompanying HRH on his visit was the Lord-Lieutenant Hugh Duberly Esq CBE, who represents the Crown in Cambridgeshire and receives members of the Royal Family on visits to the county.
The Duke of York was invited to take on the role as the UK's Special Representative for International Trade and Investment in 2001, after serving for 22 years in the Royal Navy. Working with Government, and in particular, UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), His Royal Highness's role involves promoting the UK as an attractive inward investment destination for foreign investors; creating more positive business conditions for British businesses investing overseas; and helping UK companies export their products to emerging and established markets.
