New Intergraph® GeoMedia® SDI Portal Expands Spatial Data Sharing to Browser Applications

Portal increases collaboration, productivity and ROI for governments and businesses

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., June 22, 2010 – Intergraph® has expanded its spatial data infrastructure (SDI) application with the introduction of GeoMedia® SDI Portal to offer governments and other organisations new capabilities for empowering browser applications with SDI functionality. The new offering provides a Web browser application for consuming, querying and visualising SDI Web services in a mapping context.

With GeoMedia SDI Portal, organisations involved in border security, emergency management, infrastructure management, land information management, public information services (including INSPIRE or any national SDI), mapping and cartographic production can more easily share accurate geospatial data internally and with government agencies, commercial businesses and the public.

Intergraph SDI technology has been successfully deployed by the Czech Land Survey Office, a department of the Czech Office for Surveying, Mapping and Cadastre. The organisation’s portal provides simplified access to spatial data and draws thousands of users from government agencies, companies and the general public.

“As a complex organisation responsible for maintaining and distributing vast amounts of geospatial data, we rely on Intergraph SDI technology for fast, secure and seamless collaboration both internally and externally,” said Petr Dvoracek, head of the Geoinformatics Department at the Czech Office for Surveying, Mapping and Cadastre. “Through our Intergraph SDI solution, we are able to leverage Web services to efficiently manage and distribute geospatial data while also complying with INSPIRE legislation.”

“The sharing of geospatial data is increasingly being mandated by law around the world, and is also being embraced by governments and businesses for operational advantages,” said Teresa Smith, senior vice president of product development and support for Intergraph’s Security, Government & Infrastructure division. “By adding new browser and portal capabilities to our SDI application, Intergraph is helping organisations to further embrace the use of smart- and thin-clients, as well as Web services, to share critical data, streamline processes, increase efficiency and comply with the law.”

Intergraph SDI solutions support geospatial industry standards including ISO and OGC, as well as government initiatives including the European Union INSPIRE, United Nations SDI, Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure and U.S. National SDI. In addition to government mandates, economic benefits are also resulting in strong demand for improved collaboration as governments and other organisations look to better leverage geospatial data and generate greater return on their investments.

Intergraph’s SDI solutions are built on the foundation of GeoMedia and GeoMedia WebMap, which enable users to bring spatial data from disparate databases into a single desktop or Web environment for viewing, analysis and presentation. The Intergraph SDI portfolio also includes GeoMedia SDI Pro, which provides advanced Web services for implementing SDIs, and enables organisations to meet government compliance mandates for data sharing. In addition to being built on industry standards and supporting worldwide government data sharing initiatives, Intergraph’s SDI solutions can help improve data and network security and protect services from illegal usage through built-in password requirements and access restrictions.

Intergraph will be participating as a Gold Sponsor in the INSPIRE Conference 2010, June 22-25 in Krakow, Poland. The company will contribute to several workshops and sessions, as well as exhibit its SDI application.

About the Czech Office for Surveying, Mapping and Cadastre (COSMC)
COSMC is responsible for many spatial data efforts across the Czech Republic, including administering the registration of land parcels that form the Czech Republic’s Cadastre of Real Estate, publishing the Czech Republic’s base mapping and orthophotos, surveying the state border and managing the central archives of Surveying, Mapping and Cadastre, among others. The Land Survey Office of COSMC has leveraged Intergraph SDI technology to build its Geoportal, a comprehensive Internet solution that provides access to the national spatial data resources produced and updated by COSMC. Built strictly in accordance with INSPIRE rules, Geoportal enables the administration and publication of metadata for key geospatial data themes and delivery of the data via OGC WMS and WFS services.
