Informed Solutions are delighted to announce that two further Central Government departments - The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) - have joined the award-winning Places Platform.
A collaborative, cross-government project has seen DECC and DCMS integrate aspects of their data holdings into Places’ flexible information management framework, enabling local authorities, analysts and the general public to access a richer and more varied evidence base. In addition, the departments’ data can now benefit from the advanced analytical capability that Places provides, significantly improving the ability of local partnerships to monitor performance and make better operational and strategic decisions.
Julian Prime (Energy Consumption Statistician, DECC) said “Being able to work with CLG and be part of the Places Framework has added another dimension to the way our data are collated, accessed and viewed. Previously, the data were only available through data download, but Places now enables our data to be viewed by a greater community and allows users to analyse data through interactive outputs including charts and maps.”
Peter Antoniades (Evidence and Analysis Unit, DCMS) said “We are delighted to be able to work with CLG and join the Places Platform. Places will enable us to improve access to our culture and sporting data, reaching a wider audience in a very cost effective manner.”
Louise Day (Programme Manager, Places Community Programme, CLG) said “We are really pleased that we are able to work with and share our platforms with other government departments. This is a genuine example of joined up working across central government offices to save costs”.
Places allows access to thousands of open, structured datasets related to the concept of ‘place’ and disseminates it as raw data and through tailored interfaces known as “shop windows”. Places was the winner of the Whitehall and Westminster World Civil Service Award for Knowledge Management in 2008.
