Cadcorp to Exhibit at LGA Health Conference

GIS, local government, and the Health and Social Care Bill

Stevenage, Herts. 19th January 2011 – The UK based developer and supplier of GIS and web mapping software, Cadcorp, will be demonstrating the value of geographic information in public health at the LGA Conference, ‘What the Health and Social Care Bill Means for Local Government.’

The conference which is organised by the Local Government Association (www.local.gov.uk) takes place in London on 3rd February and is aimed at elected members and professionals in local government. Cadcorp will be exhibiting in partnership with HealthGIS (www.healthgis.nhs.uk), the GIS and mapping service of the NHS Avon Information Management and Technology Consortium.  Experts will be on hand from both companies to demonstrate and discuss how at a time of spending cuts, local government can use geographic information systems technology to help it deliver against its new and extended responsibilities for improving public health.

"Maps have been an important tool for the public health profession, ever since John Snow used them in 1854 to establish that a cholera epidemic in London could be attributed to a contaminated water pump in Broad Street”, noted Mike O’Neil, CEO of Cadcorp. “There is no doubt that geographic information albeit in digital form, and delivered via Geographic Information Systems, will continue to play a central role in public health. The challenge - given the cuts already affecting local government – is how to extend the remit of GIS without duplicating existing local government investment in GIS. Cadcorp has built its reputation by developing technologies that allow organisations to work smarter by sharing both the costs and benefits of spatial data, over a wider pool of users and systems. Cadcorp and HealthGIS will be at the LGA Conference to show and discuss how this can be done.”
