University College London and Aberdeen University Receive Intergraph Education Grants

Intergraph announced today two more UK Universities, University College London (UCL) and Aberdeen University, have joined Intergraph’s global education programme. Both have been awarded Intergraph Registered Research Laboratory (RRL) grants, which provide access to an extensive suite of desktop and web-based geospatial software (including version upgrades and a helpdesk package) at no cost. The software awarded under the RRL grants will support research and teaching activities. Additionally, to support their studies students of the universities will also benefit from free personal education licences of Intergraph’s flagship desktop GIS package, GeoMedia Professional.

Dr Claire Ellul, Lecturer in GIS within the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering at UCL said “I believe that it is important for our students to be able to critically evaluate and assess GIS packages and select the software tool most appropriate for their requirements, both during their course and in their future employment.  Intergraph’s Student License Grant facilitates this, allowing students to explore a widely used GIS package in some detail.  Tools such as GeoMedia SDI, Feature Cartographer and GeoMedia 3D can additionally be used to support on-going research into metadata creation and sharing, and 3D GIS within the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering”.

Intergraph and the Centre for Marine and Coastal Zone Management at Aberdeen University collaborated in the European Community’s successful NatureSDIplus programme, which uses various Intergraph products, including GeoMedia SDI Pro.  The GeoMedia Suite is used in the University’s M.Sc. degree programme, AGIS (Applied Geospatial Technologies) to support teaching and project work as well as dissertations. The GeoMedia tutorials are used for teaching and training.

“I am delighted to add such well-known and respected universities to the Intergraph education programme’s growing community” commented Alun Pearsey, UK Director, Intergraph SG&I. “Both UCL and Aberdeen undertake internationally significant research and we are delighted to be able to support them in their work”.
