Port-Log.net Down Under

UK based marine data management, publishing and GIS company, OceanWise, and oceanographic instrument manufacturer, Valeport, are pleased to announce the successful implementation of a tide, wave and weather monitoring system at the Australian Marine Complex in Henderson, WA.  The system was commissioned by Perth based engineering company, ONA Marine Pty Ltd.

The system uses a combination of Valeport and Gill Instruments sensors and equipment, with the output telemetered to the Port-Log.net virtual server in Oxford, UK.  The incoming data streams are decoded and stored in Ocean Database on the server.  Web services then act on the database to display current and historic conditions, as required by the user.  A typical web display showing wind speed and direction is presented below, but the system is equally capable and handling all common parameter types including ADP and wave data.

Different levels of users are able to access different types and periods of data via a secure login.  System and survey managers can access system parameters (e.g. battery level), this being important to optimizing maintenance visits and reducing data loss.  For the scientist and engineer, Ocean Database accepts connections from desktop applications e.g. MATLAB for more complex processing and analysis.  The displays can be embedded in other web pages using 'inline frames' technology allowing the data to be published more widely.

Port-Log.net is totally flexible and independent of any particular instrument or manufacturer, so users are able to mix and match theses as they wish, according to technical need or budget.  Port-Log.net also offers exceptional value for money with no set up, development or IT equipment costs required.
