Location Centre Launch is a Great Success

GIS and IT professionals from all over Scotland travelled to Stirling to attend the Location Centre launch event.  Attendees were keen to learn all about Forth Valley GIS’s latest development Location Centre – an innovative, hosted web solution that makes GIS easy.

The event took place in Forth Valley GIS’s head office, where delegates were shown how Location Centre provides GIS as a Service. Built using OpenSource technologies, the managed service was developed in response to a growing need to remove the traditional barriers associated with GIS, such as, long lead times, high costs and the technical complexities faced by an organisation operating its own infrastructure.

Tom Moore, Solutions Manager at Forth Valley GIS said ‘Location Centre combines the infrastructure, data and rich web GIS functions with a fully managed service that makes it easy for customers to deploy and use GIS’.

Such has been the early interest in Location Centre that three customers have already adopted the solution, Perth & Kinross Council, Angus Council and Millar and Bryce Ltd – the largest private land search firm in Scotland.  Ewan Walker, IT Team Leader - Geographical Data Management at Perth and Kinross Council and Gary Donaldson, Business Development Manager at Millar and Bryce were both presenting at the event, advising delegates of the early benefits their organisations have already gained from Location Centre.

Gary Donaldson from Millar & Bryce told attendees, ‘Location Centre has provided us with significant benefits in terms of data management, cost management and risk management’.  He also declared, ‘Location Centre is something special and I am proud to be an early adopter. We strongly value the service and attention that Forth Valley GIS pay to us and our clients

Ewan Walker, Perth & Kinross Council explained how in today’s tough climate, Councils are under extreme pressure to cut operating costs and one way of achieving this is through shared services, saying ‘Location Centre is fundamental to the success and value of the Perth and Kinross and Angus Councils joint procurement project for web GIS. And now that we have Location Centre, we’re not just talking about GIS solutions anymore, we’re rapidly deploying them. Forth Valley GIS have helped ensure we significantly enhance our return on investment’

Delegates were given the opportunity to try Location Centre and participate in a free trial. An online demonstration can be found at www.forthvalleygis.co.uk.

Alan Moore, Chief Executive of Forth Valley GIS, was elated the event was a great success and said, ‘Location Centre will liberate the way geographic information is accessed and shared. Customers in any market sector will benefit from the low cost, low risk approach and the early return on investment. We’re delighted with the early interest and uptake and look forward to a rapidly growing customer base’.
