Dr Gobe Hobona of Envitia appointed to Open Source Geospatial Laboratory Advisory Board

In September 2010, the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo) and the Centre for Geospatial Science (CGS), University of Nottingham signed a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) for the establishment of an Open Source Geospatial Lab (OSGL) and to develop collaboration opportunities for academia, industry and government organisations in open source GIS software and data in the UK. The MoU provides for the establishment of a research laboratory for supporting the development of open-source geospatial software technologies, training and expertise. The MoU also provides for provision of internship opportunities for high quality students.

OSGeo and CGS have established an Advisory Board for the OSGL that includes experts from academia, industry and the public sector. The Advisory Board will give strategic input and direction for the OSGL. Dr Gobe Hobona has been appointed to the Advisory Board. Gobe’s appointment will contribute Envitia’s expertise and experiences to the research conducted by the OSGL. With the adoption of the Open Source technologies GeoServer and GeoNetwork in the Welsh Assembly Government Corporate Geospatial Services and other projects, Gobe’s appointment to the OSGL Advisory Board will maintain Envitia’s profile in the open source community.
