1Spatial announces new appointments in Australian office

Cambridge, UK, 17th February 2012 - 1Spatial is pleased to announce the appointment of Brett Madsen to the position of Regional Manager, Australia/New Zealand, based in the 1Spatial office located in Sydney, Australia.

Brett brings wealth of experience, having previously managed Lagen Spatial in Australia for 10 years, prior to its acquisition by the 1Spatial Group in April 2011. The appointment is the next step in the development of the business.

Brett’s appointment is just one of several changes going on in the 1Spatial Australia office. 1Spatial delivers end-to-end chart production solution to the RAF

Cambridge, UK, 1st February 2012 - 1Spatial is delighted to announce the successful completion of the latest stage of a long term development project for No1 Aeronautical Information Documents Unit (No1 AIDU), supporting paper and digital chart production.

As provider and distributor of aeronautical charts to the MOD, No1 AIDU has to distribute mission critical data that is accurate and up to date within set timescales. Their 28-day update cycle requires production of up to 72 different En Route Charts in both paper and digital format for use by pilots and flight planners. The actual chart generation, following the data update process, takes place in a short window before final manual checks are carried out.

The new system introduces 1Spatial’s rules-based Radius Studio platform to provide configurable, automated processing capabilities to the production workflow. The new system is also based on one single database, rather than multiple datasets. By relying on a single source of truth for both En-Route charts and digital data exports, the effort of the maintenance task and the risk of inconsistencies between datasets are both reduced.

By automating large sections of the workflow, including processing the data, placing labels and cartographically clarifying the output, No1 AIDU can reduce the risk of inconsistencies between charts. This reduces both the time taken for processing the charts and the amount of manual effort required meaning they can produce a more accurate and consistent product in less time, with less risk and at a lower manual overhead.

1Spatial resumes OGC TC level membership

Cambridge, UK, 6th January 2012. 1Spatial is pleased to announce that after a lapse of eight years, the company has resumed its Technical Committee (TC) level of membership.

1Spatial originally joined OGC in 1996. Jointly, with GE Smallworld, the company hosted the first TC event outside North America in August 1997. It was also the first at which specifications were approved and adopted (Simple Features). The press release on this event remains on the OGC website to this day, see: http://www.opengeospatial.org/pressroom/pressreleases/227.

1Spatial continued to participate at the TC level for nearly a decade and Dr Paul Watson made a significant contribution to the topology definition contained in GML. Although dropping out from the TC level, 1Spatial has continued to contribute to OGC activities and has been active in the Data Quality Working Group, co-chaired by Dr Matt Beare. Participation in these activities has contributed to 1Spatial having a unique set of capabilities in data quality assessment for sharing. It recently launched a ‘Software as a Service’ data validation tool, Socium that checks spatial data against OGC Valid and Simple Features.

OGC interest in the use of location as an enabler in Business Intelligence saw the creation of a GeoBI working group at the recent Brussels TC in November coincided with 1Spatial’s interests in this area.  Dr Mike Sanderson offered to chair the newly formed GeoBI working group.

Dr Mike Sanderson of 1Spatial said:

“The level of OGC activity has increased in recent years as organisations have sought to utilise spatial data in enterprise decision-making. The need for standards to ensure that location data can play an effective role in executive decisions is something I have been passionate about for a long time.
