Dotted Eyes delivers 4 years of fault free performance

Large, centrally managed IT contracts in the NHS have not always received good press, which is why it’s great to hear about those that succeed. With the NHS Digital Mapping Agreement now at its end, Dotted Eyes is celebrating the successful delivery of a high quality service to over 130 NHS organisations over the last four years in partnership with the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC).

The Digital Mapping Agreement was brokered by the HSCIC to enable the NHS to gain access to geographic data in a ready-to-use format at a minimum cost. In 2008 Dotted Eyes, one of the UK’s leading GIS solution houses, was awarded the contract by the HSCIC through an OJEU procurement.

During its four year life-cycle Dotted Eyes delivered over 3.5 terabytes of mapping data to over 130 NHS organisations. All of this data was delivered fully optimised for each individual organisation so that they could use it immediately and extract as much value as possible from the service.

Updates to the data were delivered on a quarterly basis for many products, meaning that over 700 deliveries were made on time and on budget.

To ensure service quality was consistently high, it was agreed at the onset that it would be monitored and guided by the Steering Committee, facilitated by the HSCIC. The quality of service proved to be of such a high standard that no penalty points were awarded throughout the whole contract.

With the Digital Mapping agreement now at a close and superseded by the Public Sector Mapping Agreement (PSMA), the last Steering Committee meeting was recently held to agree on the final elements of the migration to the PSMA.

Ben Allan, MD of Dotted Eyes, commented “This has been a fantastic success. To improve, customise and deliver so much data in such a seamless and faultless manner has been a real triumph. It’s a great example of how the public and private sector can work together to successfully deliver a common goal.”

HSCIC chief executive Tim Straughan said: “High quality, timely data is absolutely vital for organisations to make effective decisions and ultimately benefit patient care. This contract has been an example of where innovation through partnership can deliver secure, relevant and consistent information to multiple organisations; supporting intelligent planning and delivery.”

FME World Tour makes a stop in the UK with host - Dotted Eyes

During September Dotted Eyes entertained a record number of delegates at the FME User Meeting as part of the FME 2012 World Tour – hosted in London and Birmingham with additional FME events in Cardiff and Manchester – gaining a fantastic response from all who attended. Dotted Eyes, one of the UK’s leading GIS service providers, took a radically different approach to their FME events this year by making it all about the individual and the issues they face. An innovative gold star award system – devised to answer four user questions – ensured delegates went away with tangible solutions to their own specific FME challenges.

With a real focus on building a strong UK FME community, the event was also much more interactive than ever before. Countless delegates grabbed the opportunity to quiz FME gurus, while the multiple interactive sessions encouraged users to swap tried and tested practises, creating a buzz of activity amongst the delegates.

Dotted Eyes replaced the traditional lecture-style conference with three interactive workshops. Of the workshops, the FME pub quiz – hosted by Dotted Eyes’ FME expert James Bowler – caused a hubbub of excitement as orange stress balls were thrown to delegates across the room for correct answers.

As the UK’s only Platinum partner of Safe Software, Dotted Eyes were delighted to incorporate an engaging presentation from Safe’s very own co-founder and Vice President of Development, Dale Lutz, and European Services Manager, Ken Bragg. The Canadian double act shared the best global uses of FME that they encountered during their recent world tour, providing fantastic hints and tips for both novice and experienced users.

Mark Murray, GIS Team Leader at Stockport Council, said: “One of the best events I've attended in recent years. I enjoyed every minute of it, especially as I felt the format and the topics covered were 100% relevant to me. It was invaluable not just in terms of what I learnt but also being able to talk directly to one of the creators of the technology.”

Gareth Williams, GIS Technical Manager at Fluor, said: “I really enjoyed the friendly and interactive nature of the UK FME User Meeting. It was a hugely valuable event for me. The format made it really easy for me to network and share idea with other FME users. I went away having learnt new applications for FME that I will now put into practice.”

Feedback from delegates taken via a survey also confirmed the overwhelming success of the event.  86% of delegates scored it as one of the best events they’ve attended and 100% said they would recommend it to others.

Dale Lutz commented: “It’s always fascinating to be able to interact with enthusiastic FME customers and learn about the innovative ways they’re using the product.  Dotted Eyes were great hosts and created an informative interactive environment to help British FME users enhance their skills.”

Dotted Eyes’ MD, Ben Allan, was thrilled with the turnout: “This year’s event was all about delivering value to the FME user. We wanted to implement a completely different format, which provided real answers to everyday issues organisations face. I am delighted to say that the conferences were a huge success, confirmed by the crowd of delegates that followed us to the pub afterwards!”

Dotted Eyes partners with 1Spatial to deliver a free data validation service

There’s now a quick and easy way to check that your data is right, rather than waiting for a problem to tell you it’s not.  What’s more, this service is completely free of charge.

Dotted Eyes, one of the UK’s leading GIS service providers, is pleased to announce the launch of yet another valuable service on its cloud platform – MISO.  Data Validator, delivered in partnership with 1Spatial, is a new validation service that means not only can you get your data prepared, styled and optimised on MISO but you can now get it validated too.

Data Validator makes data quality accessible to you without any cost of ownership or on-going fees!  It also enables you to have real confidence in the data you use and share, saving you the headache of discovering data problems once a project is well underway, by which point a data fix can be significantly trickier and take much longer to resolve than if it had been identified at the outset.

Ben Allan, Managing Director of Dotted Eyes, commented: “We’re delighted to be partnering with 1Spatial to deliver this highly valuable service to our customers, especially as it brings Dotted Eyes another step closer to making MISO a one stop shop for all your data needs.  It also fits perfectly with MISO’s goal to make a GIS professional’s life easier by giving them real confidence in the data they use.

“We look forward to developing further exciting solutions with 1Spatial.”

Duncan Guthrie, Strategic Alliance Director at 1Spatial, commented: “Dotted Eyes have been a trusted and highly valuable supplier of solutions to the Government market place for a number of years. Their understanding of the market’s needs is exceptional and we are extremely pleased to be working in partnership with them.

Dotted Eyes enables web-based attribute editing on its RMX4 platform

Dotted Eyes has taken another step closer to offering complete desk-based GIS functionality through its web mapping platform, RMX4, with the launch of its new web-based attribute editing feature.

At the click of a mouse, this innovative new feature allows RMX4 users to easily edit attributes within the online map and instantly share this information with others. This will help make online mapping even more accessible to individuals across all roles. Instead of relying on GIS professionals to update attributes through a desktop client, it allows individuals to easily do this from an Intranet browser.

Built on top of a single, open source technology stack, RMX4 is the latest web mapping solution to be offered by Dotted Eyes, the UK’s leading GIS development house. By providing individuals with a user-friendly interface to self-serve data securely online, it is helping simplify web mapping and make it a cost effective solution for all.

Dotted Eyes has created different versions of RMX4, such as Local Government Portal, that are designed for the specific needs of individual sectors. Within the Local Government sector, in particular, it is proving to be extremely popular due to the cost savings and efficiencies it is helping these organisations to generate.

Ben Allan, CEO of Dotted Eyes, commented: “Our brand new web-based attribute editing feature is just the first step to us delivering the sophisticated and complete functionality of desk-based GIS functionality from the web. This truly innovative feature is one of many new exciting features we will be adding to RMX4 over the coming year.”
