Demonstrating ‘ArcGIS In Action’ at the Esri UK Annual Conference

Aylesbury: April 24, 2012 – Improving productivity, sharing and collaboration with the ArcGIS system will take centre-stage at this year’s Esri UK Annual Conference.   With the imminent launch of ArcGIS 10.1, the event will showcase new capabilities and demonstrate how organisations can extend the reach of their existing GIS and transition to next-generation GIS concepts and platforms, without jeopardising their current GIS investments

The one-day conference will also feature  presentations from customers around the UK showcasing innovative, proven approaches to solving complex business challenges with GIS, most notably:

Boots, the UK’s leading pharmacy-led health and beauty retailer, will talk about how it uses GIS to better understand customer demographics and behaviours, analyse individual store performance at both a local and regional level and maximise store outreach to strengthen customer catchment.

The Energy Saving Trust, charged with helping energy utilities and other government and non-government organisations work faster towards a low carbon economy, will discuss how GIS plays a crucial role in understanding how energy efficiency schemes are currently, and can be better delivered.

The Thames Tunnel Project; for the past three and a half years the project, for a major new sewer to protect the River Thames from increasing pollution, has been using GIS to manage data, perform analysis, visualise and share information amongst stakeholders.   A demonstration of its web-based tools and iPad app will show how the central GIS has been extended to deliver efficiency and ease of access to the right information, at the right time.

Foster and Partners; having pioneered a sustainable approach to architecture from urban masterplans to product design, Foster and Partners’ presentation will illustrate how an in-depth understanding of spatial conditions is key to developing an intelligent design solution.

Esri UK Helps Crimestoppers Step Up Its Fight Against Crime

Aylesbury, March 22nd 2012 – Esri UK, the leading provider of geographic information systems (GIS), has announced a strategic partnership with the charity Crimestoppers, to explore how GIS can help the charity make more accurate information about criminal activities available to the police.  As part of the partnership, Esri UK will provide Crimestoppers with software and consultancy skills.

With more than 90,000 calls expected to its UK bureau this year alone, Crimestoppers anticipates that GIS could play a major role in helping the organisation make the best use of the information received. For example, GIS could be used in conjunction with call centre systems to plot the precise locations of crimes, whilst continuing to ensure the anonymity of callers.   This more accurate, detailed information could help the police in its official investigations and help improve both the detection and prevention of crime, once the information has been analysed and passed onto them.

Esri UK and Crimestoppers will also explore how GIS could be used to help the public provide more detailed information online.  By integrating web-based GIS services into Crimestoppers’ existing website, the public could simply go online and plot the location of crimes or suspect incidents or sightings. This and other similar GIS applications could help Crimestoppers improve the speed and effectiveness of its collaboration with the public.

“We are confident that a more geo-spatial approach to crime detection will be of enormous benefit to Crimestoppers,”

Esri UK appointed to supply cloud-based GIS services to the UK Public Sector

Aylesbury; February 23rd 2012 - Esri UK, the country’s leading supplier of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), has been appointed by the Government Procurement Service to supply cloud-based GIS services to the UK public sector under the new G-Cloud Framework Agreement. The G-Cloud Framework has created an online catalogue (the “CloudStore”) from which customers may select and purchase from over 1,700 information and communications services available to the UK public sector. Our G-Cloud services include a web-based Geographic Information System that allows customers to create and publish their own bespoke maps, combining a range of basemap options with the customer’s own geospatially-referenced data. Esri UK’s GIS services are listed in the Software as a Service (SaaS) genre within the catalogue.

According to the Cabinet Office: “The G-Cloud framework is set to revolutionise the purchasing, management and delivery of public sector IT services and the way suppliers work with government. Public sector organisations will be able to purchase “off-the-shelf” IT services from CloudStore on a “pay-as-you-go” basis rather than having to develop their own systems. This model means the government can use what it wants, when it wants it, and save money by avoiding duplication of services that cannot be shared..”

“Esri UK applauds the Government’s initiative to launch G-Cloud and we are proud to be part of the programme” said Stephen Leece, Esri UK’s General Manager for Government. “We look forward to delivering cloud-based GIS services to the public sector and to offering enhanced solutions in future G-Cloud phases.”
