Information Systems (GIS) is pleased to announce a full programme of support for the

AGI Annual Conference, AGI Community ’11; leading with a plenary keynote.

Amanda Turner, Esri UK’s General Manager for Commercial Markets, will take to the podium on day one to share her observations as a newcomer to the GIS community on the exciting opportunities and biggest challenges facing the industry.  Esri UK has two further speakers: John Clayson, Industry Practice Manager for Local Government, will talk about how Local Authorities can maximise environmental and revenue opportunities using GIS and

Esri UK Helps Students Improve Potential Employability

Aylesbury: September 7, 2011 - Esri UK, the country’s leading provider of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), today announced that it has renewed an agreement to make GIS software available to colleges and universities in the UK and Ireland, at a substantially reduced price, through an Eduserv Chest agreement.   The new three year agreement adds to Esri UK’s existing 19 year participation in Chest through which 80 per cent of UK universities and other educational institutions purchase GIS from Esri UK.

Esri UK’s continued support for the further and higher education sectors will enable lecturers to further integrate GIS into a broad range of courses and, importantly, allow more students to develop GIS skills alongside expertise in core subjects.    Research previously carried out by Esri UK* revealed that business leaders across the UK are calling for an increase in graduates with geography skills, yet large numbers of graduates continue to struggle to find employment.  GIS skills help students and undergraduates improve their potential employability.

“As universities increase course fees, students will inevitably have higher expectations, and will want to graduate with up-to-date technology skills that are relevant to the work place,” commented Richard Waite, Managing Director of Esri UK.  “Esri UK is proud to extend its commitment to education by making it even easier for universities and colleges to equip their students with the skills they need, to optimise their potential employability.”

Dr Richard Waite, Managing Director of Esri UK, commenting on the report, said: “I welcome the Ofsted report and the spotlight it shines on the importance of geography as a subject taught in primary and secondary schools, and on the potential of GIS to enhance its teaching.

At Esri UK, a GIS software provider, we value geography and geographic skills very highly. We know that location – where things and people are - underpins the majority of decisions made by businesses every day. With GIS this geographic information can be harnessed and better decisions made.
