Intergraph Consortium - new National Geospatial Data Management System fully operational at Ordnance Survey

New pioneering system coordinates and controls millions of updates to Great Britain’s national mapping agency and lays the foundation for new Ordnance Survey map products.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Aug 16, 2011 – A Consortium, led by Intergraph Corporation and including 1Spatial and Snowflake Software, successfully completed the delivery of its innovative Geospatial Data Management System (GDMS) to Great Britain’s national mapping agency, Ordnance Survey in January of this year. Following successful pre-production trials, the new system achieved a successful ‘Go- Live’ in July and is now in full production mode. To satisfy Ordnance Survey’s operational needs, the system had to meet challenging and exacting requirements for both performance and process control.  Most significantly, the system will ensure consistency between Ordnance Survey products and will enable it to develop new, innovative products to address both the current and future business needs of the organisation.

Ordnance Survey manages the definitive mapping database of the entire natural and built landscape of Great Britain at survey level accuracy. The agency’s national geographic database describes more than 440 million individual features – including every road, building, pillar box and field. Each year, more than one million changes to the landscape of Great Britain need to be measured and assimilated into this database using data sources that include field surveyors, remote sensing commercial data capture companies and other national agencies. This creates a data management task of extraordinary complexity and volume that requires efficient planning, control and processing. The GDMS has been developed to address some 5,000 detailed Ordnance Survey requirements in order to support up to 600 staff and 5,000 update jobs daily, which can involve the retrieval of up to 36 million map feature records and the posting of 300,000 updates.

The City of Bilbao Launches High-profile Geoportal With Intergraph® SDI

Bilbao City Council launches its spatial portal publishing map-based information and delivering map-based services to citizens and employees

MUNICH/Germany, 30th June, 2011 – Bilbao city council has launched GeoBilbao, a portal serving map-based information and services using Intergraph’s GeoMedia spatial data infrastructure (SDI) solution. The city, which serves a population of more than 355,000 spread across eight districts and covering 40 square kilometres, initiated the project to help the municipality make more efficient and effective use of its spatial information resources. Internally, this meant improving data coordination and reuse across multiple departmental systems that use Geographic Information System (GIS) software and integrating spatial information and capabilities with the City’s enterprise business applications. Externally, the objective was to create a public access municipal geo-data portal that would simplify the creation of public services while increasing their efficiency, transparency and accessibility.

The new infrastructure provides a definitive and unambiguous source of spatial information within the municipality and equips employees with key tools to support decision making such as map-based data searches, analysis and editing. It also facilitates simple and efficient data sharing and collaboration with other governmental agencies through standards-based information exchange. For the public, Bilbao’s geoportal provides a fast and simple way to access information and services using a web browser without the need to install software.

Intergraph® SDI Solutions to Power Spatial Services at Austria’s Austro Control

Intergraph to Play a Leading Role in Austria’s First Publicly-tendered National Spatial Data Infrastructure Implementation

MUNICH/Germany, 28th June, 2011 – Intergraph, a global leader in geospatial solutions is to play a key role in implementing a map-based data publishing service for Austria’s civil aviation authority, Austro Control. This high-profile project, which is the first publicly tendered Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) in Austria, was awarded to a consortium led by Frequentis AG.

Austro Control is the national body responsible for providing safe and cost-effective management of Austria’s air space, and directing the movements of up to 4,000 aircraft each day. Intergraph’s software will be used to deliver a system that will serve a range of critical national datasets created by Austro Control together with data from third-party providers. In subsequent phases, it is anticipated that the data will also be served to external, authorized users via OGC-compliant web services.

The project will organize source data within a central database whose ultimate scope will span survey data, topographic maps, terrain data, digital elevation models and meteorological data as well as specialist aeronautical data such as obstacles, flight paths, departure and approach charts, etc. The system will utilize the collective data to generate aeronautical charts and other critical geo-data related products.

In addition to the core database and services, the project will also deliver a client browser. As well as viewing and analysing Austro Control data, the browser will be able to connect to and utilize external OGC-compliant data sources using the web service integration capabilities provided by Intergraph’s GeoMedia SDI Portal.
