SciSys accepted as a supplier of Cloud services to the UK Government

SciSys is pleased to announce that it has been accepted as a supplier of Cloud services to the UK Government.   The Government Procurement Service (GPS) has established a catalogue of suppliers, known as the G-Cloud, to facilitate the supply of the entire range of cloud services from hardware to specialist consultancy on moving to the cloud.

Steve Brignall, SciSys CTO commented:  “The UK Government has had the provision of IT services via the cloud as a strategic priority for some time, and the G-Cloud is a significant step to realising the benefits of the cloud.  Inclusion on this catalogue is vital for any supplier who wishes to continue providing IT services to the UK Government.  Our inclusion on both the lots we tendered means we will continue to bring premium value to existing and new Government customers”

SciSys have been successful in achieving entries in both lots that it applied for: Google Mapping services and Helpdesk provision (With Cherwell) in the Software As A Service (SAAS) lot and integration, implementation, application management / support and Google Mapping Consultancy on the specialist cloud services lot.

This is a first step towards the formation of the G-Cloud; further services can be added at a later date, subject to GPS approval, and SciSys will be actively building a portfolio of cloud services in the future.

SciSys delivers Systems Integration for the Coal Authority

SciSys led partnership delivers seamless Systems Integration for the Coal Authority

SciSys’ Environment Division, working on behalf of the Coal Authority, has delivered the first phase of an innovative spatially enabled corporate business information system known as Inferis.

Working in close co-operation with leading software suppliers, IBM Software and ESRI, Inferis provides the Coal Authority for the first time with an enterprise wide spatially enabled solution that facilitates smarter working via corporate data sharing and service re-use.

Commenting on the delivery of Inferis Steve Pennell, Director of Mining Information and Services, said “The Coal Authority undertakes several complex business operations involving legacy coal mining with public safety to the fore. What has impressed me about the SciSys team is the way that they have established an open delivery focussed relationship both with ourselves but also with their own partners and suppliers. The development of this close relationship between customer and suppliers has been central to the seamless delivery of Inferis.”

On behalf of SciSys, David Jones, CEO said “Like any large Systems Integration project, delivering Inferis has not been without its technical and operational challenges. The smooth implementation of the project is down to the excellent relationship we have formed with the Coal Authority and the collaborative approach of the three delivery parties, ourselves, IBM Software and ESRI.”

Sciscys hosts workshop on spatial data with key Government Agencies

Demonstrating its commitment to the integration of spatial and non spatial solutions, SciSys Environment Division held an inaugural seminar for public sector organisations to debate the challenges and opportunities associated with making Spatial Data available in the public domain.

Attendees from a variety of organisations including UK Location Programme, the Forestry Commission, Welsh Government, Ordnance Survey, the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology and the British Geological Society gathered to hear presentations from a number of senior thinkers in the environmental data sectors.

Chaired by Professor Mike Jackson, Director of the Centre for Geospatial Science at Nottingham University and a non-executive director of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), the day provided a series of thought pieces, invoking serious discussion as well as the opportunity for attendees to network with presenters and participants alike.

Professor Jackson commented “The SciSys Spatial Data Day was an excellent event that sparked lively debate around the real issues that face public sector initiatives such as INSPIRE, the Transparency Agenda and the challenges of sharing public data within and outside of Government. The SciSys workshop generated some real insight into these areas stimulated by excellent presentations and the depth of know-how, implementation and operational experience from the experts present!”
