AGI recognises that INSPIRE aims are in accordance with the AGI mission statement and welcomes the initiative as a means of using GI to enable better decision making at local, national and European levels. In particular AGI welcomes the need for common standards, for some harmonisation and for some integration of GI across national boundaries. AGI's operation of the Gigateway metadata portal within the UK demonstrates a commitment to these ideals.
