Edinburgh Earth Observatory seminars 2012/13 ![]() Now in its eighth year, the University of Edinburgh School of GeoSciences has kicked-off another year of its successful Edinburgh Earth Observatory seminar series. This informal series combines research seminars with talks of professional interest and is open to students and staff across the University and beyond, together with professionals in the field working in Edinburgh and other parts of Scotland. Supported by the Association for Geographic Information in Scotland (AGI Scotland) as a professional seminar series, it aims to be inclusive and broad-ranging. The theme this year is ‘Past and Future GIS: Underground, Overground and Above Ground’. We look at Visualising Cities and their Transport Networks both past and future including London, this being the year of the 2012 London Olympics, and finally we include a number of 'local heroes' working with a range of Earth Observation data and GIS techniques here in Edinburgh. Each event is followed by informal GeoDrinks, which all members are welcome to attend even if you cannot make the seminar. Follow this link for further information AGI Social Event: Geo-Drinks Glasgow, 26 November NThis is an informal, social networking event in a Central Glasgow bar, organised by the AGI & sponsored by Forth Valley GIS. This event follows the Ordnance Survey One Scotland Mapping Agreement (OSMA) seminar, but is open to everyone and offers and excellent opportunity for networking and knowledge transfer across the full spectrum of geospatial disciplines - including GIS, mapping, CAD, surveying, BIM, Location Intelligence and more. When: From 4pm Monday 26 November, 2012 Where: Waxy O'Connor's, 44 West George Street, G2 1DH (Next to Queen Street Station) Why attend? As we know, 'Geo' and Location-based technologies and solutions are now not the preserve of GIS Professionals alone. Location-aware smartphone apps, geo-coded 'Tweets', crowed-sourced mapping and easy-to-use web maps are now in mainstream ICT and available to all. The AGI wants to embrace and encourage this cross-over and the new opportunities this brings to geospatial professionals. So take a break from your virtual social networks and develop your real professional and social network, both within our own discipline and the wider 'Geo' industries The event is free, but please register your attendance online. |
