Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Geographic Information

Who is Eligible?
This award is open to all students (undergraduate and postgraduate) of universities in the United Kingdom for work done in the academic year 2011/2012 (Sept. 2011 - Sept. 2012).

What is Eligible?

An undergraduate or postgraduate thesis or dissertation is eligible for entry for this award. Submissions may be made by individual students or by their academic supervisors, in the form of a 2-3 page synopsis. (please do not submit your thesis).

How will it be judged?

It will be judged on the basis of a project in the field of geographic information handling and analysis, involving work over a period of at least three months.

The project should show such characteristics as imagination, innovation, investigative flair and the potential for further study developments as appropriate. It should also show evidence of approval or esteem from external organisations. The judging panel will take account of the time allocated for study when comparing projects

In addition the Judges will look for the following features:

  • Innovation
  • Good project management
  • Sound planning

The Judges will require the following 

A 2-3 page synopsis of the project and the problems it was designed to resolve and/or the benefits it was designed to deliver.
What are the major technology components which form the project?

When must I submit my application?
All applications must be submitted, preferably as a Word document by email and must be received by mid-day Friday 28th September 2012.  Applications after this date will not be accepted.

Where will the Awards Ceremony be held?
The AGI Annual Awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday 27th November 2012 at Ordnance Survey, Southampton.
