Working in collaboration with others is at the core of the AGI’s mission to develop and champion better use of geographic information. We are proud to be associated with a wider range of partner organisations with who we share a wide range of strategic aims and ambitions.
We facilitate an unparalleled network of industry Special Interest Groups that allow our corporate and individual members to work together on common issues and share best practice with one another. The AGI Council provides the focus for AGI’s outreach and strategic engagement with government and beyond, drawing on the deep collective expertise that exists within the AGI membership base.
We participate in a broad range of external networks with which we can identify strong synergies. For example:
- We are proud to be an active participant organisation in the UK GeoForum which brings together like-minded societies and associations that represent the core interests that encompass geography, mapping and the geospatial information handling industry.
- We maintain close working relations with the surveying and geomatics industry through our participation in the Survey Liaison Group. Along with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), The Survey Association and the Institute of Civil Engineering Surveyors (ICES), AGI played host to the inaugural GeoBusiness Expo and Conference in May 2014.
- In conjunction with the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), the AGI maintains a successful programme of professional accreditation – Chartered Geographer (GIS) – for suitably qualified individuals.
- Formed in 2014, AGI has been instrumental in developing the UK Standards Forum bringing together those national and international bodies who are most concerned with the development and application of standards relevant to the geographic information industry.
