AGI Scotland The Art of Maps

An exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the National Library of Scotland

The Art of Maps: A Guided Visit to the National Library of Scotland

Join AGI Scotland on Friday 10 July, from 13:45 to 15:30 for an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the National Library of Scotland. Guided by Chris Fleet, the Library’s Map Curator, this special visit will provide a unique insight into Scotland’s largest map collection.

Attendees will explore the collections area, where thousands of historic maps are preserved in carefully controlled conditions, and visit the digitisation studio to see how these materials are being transformed for wider public access. The tour will also include a stop in the map reading room to view selected items, a brief demonstration of the NLS online map tools, and visits to both the storage and preservation facilities and the scanning studio to learn how maps are conserved, digitised, and shared.
