Who:

Our PostGIS essentials course is for any database user who has prior GIS experience or has attended the QGIS Essentials course. Knowledge of databases and SQL is desirable.

What:

Introduction to PostgreSQL, PostGIS, pgAdminIII, servers, databases and database objects. Includes best practice and a practical exercise aimed at getting started on interacting with databases through pgAdmin and QGIS.  

The course covers the following topics:

  • Introduction and getting started

  • Loading, exporting and using spatial data

  • Basic Structured Query Language (SQL)

  • Further SQL

  • Geometry accessors and measurements

  • Measurements

  • Spatial relationships and joins

  • Geoprocessing functions
     

When:

PostGIS Essentials is a 2 day course running on the 4th and 5th December from 9:30am until 5:00pm on each day

Training will take place at Lockside Meeting Rooms on 5, Scotland Street, Lockside, Birmingham, B1 2RR, just a 15 minute walk from Birmingham new street Station.
