Underwriting and modelling floods in the UK: a geographic perspective
an AGI Insurance and Risk SIG event

The floods of winter 2013 / 2014 caused around 1 billion GBP of losses to the insurance industry, as well as affecting thousands of homes and businesses around the country. Since then numerous smaller scale floods have caused attritional losses to many insurers.

Flooding remains at the top of the agenda for the insurance industry, and since then the ABI has recently launched the “Flood Free Homes” initiative, with Flood Re due to launch in the summer.

This event aims to show how the insurance industry currently manage flood risk and how they are preparing to mitigate flood risk in the future with the help of geographic information.

Views from the underwriting and reinsurance sector will be presented alongside how flood risk is currently modelled, managed and communicated in the UK.
