The construction and infrastructure sectors are rapidly digitizing and developing new technologies and processes to enable this. Supporting this are a number of government level strategies, digital processes and emerging technologies with a renewed sense of urgency to establish the UK as a global leader in the area with the recent publication on ‘Digital Built Britain’.
The move to a digital infrastructure and life cycle information management using BIM provides a number of opportunities. Combining asset information management (AIM), with building information models (BIM) can provide integrated life cycle information management. Data rich information models can now contain multi-dimensional data on manufacturer’s specification, construction information, embodied or operational energy and carbon, maintenance schedules.
However, it is also important to consider the subsequent changes that will need to take place due to increased collaboration including standardisation of data formats, impacts on procurement and IP, and liability and cultural behaviour changes will need to be considered.
With growing numbers of innovative technologies for monitoring, measurement, analysis and evaluation of infrastructure available, increased research into ‘smart and digital infrastructure’ across the UK, and direction from government strategies to establish the UK as a leader in this area, this event will explore and debate how close the industry is to BIM level 3 and a digital infrastructure sector.
This event will provide:
- Examine emerging issues in relation to contractual impacts of BIM and how to spot these
- Review current best practice in standardising data for BIM level 3 and whole life asset and information management
- Visions and aspirations of the digital construction industry from current and future industry leaders
