#GeoCom17 – the event for AGI members that’s open to all

This year, GeoCom is being held at the Royal Geographical Society in Kensington, London, on 26th October. Our theme at #GeoCom17 is an important one – it’s Smart Geospatial – and this is the outline programme for the day:

Breakfast Briefing

Registration - 9am - and Welcome

Please arrive via the Exhibition Road Entrance. Directions to the Society can be found here

Morning sessions:

  • Talking Technology
    – what’s driving change, why are we all talking about ‘Smart’ technology and more-connected data? We’ll be looking at influences and exploring what’s shaping the need for, delivery of, and use of geospatial...
  • Perpetual Policies
    – staying ahead, being competitive, responding to change. Our speakers will be giving us real world examples of policy changes that impact our industry, and others …

Lunch - 13:00pm - catch-up with colleagues

Afternoon sessions:

  • Lightning Talks - YOUR opportunity to share ideas
    – short, insightful, a chance for you to impress with your views on the game-changing geo-technology we may be seeing soon.

We're looking for 7 min talks on all things geospatial, what problems do you see ahead? How can we innovate to solve them? Or simply just, what are you seeing and doing in geospatial that's new and exciting?

Find out more about Lightning Talks here!

  • Future-proofing
    – it’s clear the future will be focused heavily on connectivity – on Smart Geospatial – so what should we all be doing today? This is the session from which we'll be encouraging your feedback - what will you take away from #GeoCom17?!

GeoBeers - 5pm

Who's speaking at #GeoCom17?

At every GeoCom, we like to invite well-known speakers - individuals, some from the public sector, some from the private sector, all with insightful answers (and questions) about the use of geospatial in a ‘smarter’ and more connected world.

We know that geospatial technology has millions of applications in different fields, and #GeoCom17 is all about collaborations to get the most out of our skills and knowledge. For those reasons this year we're covering a wide range of industries, as we welcome Javier de la Torre - founder and CEO of online GIS platform Carto, as well as Helen Farrier - head of policy services at the National Farmers Union, Philip Graham, CEO of the National Infrastructure Commission, David Johnson - having previously worked with Google, BT and Comcast, David is now Dep Dir. of Partnerships & Knowledge Exchange at ONS Data Campus,  and Kate Jeffery, Professor of Behavioural Neuroscience at UCL.

To add another perspective Charlotte Jee, editor of Techworld Magazine, who has considerable experience reporting on the industry will also be giving us the benefit of her insights. For more information on all of our headine speakers click here, and remember, we'll be adding more names to this impressive list closer to the event so keep an eye out.
