DESCRIPTION:This course introduces the underlying principles and methods of
  Geographical Information Systems (GIS). It examines the processes involve
 d in the capture\, storage\, manipulation\, analysis\, presentation and ou
 tput of digital geographical data in a GIS and provides opportunities for 
 the development of practical skills in processing data using a leading Ope
 n Source GIS software package\, QGIS.\n\nThe course comprises a series of 
 presentations\, demos and practical sessions using QGIS software with exam
 ple data sets taken from a variety of fields. The main elements of the QGI
 S user interface are introduced and topics covered include: data managemen
 t\, data visualisation\, analysis\, data presentation and reporting.\n\nTh
 is course is intended for those who have little or no GIS knowledge and wh
 o wish to use FREE software developed by the Open Source community as oppo
