Nominations for AGI Council 2018 will be open from 3rd - 31st October 2017. Details of the nomination process and where to find out more information are available below.
A message from AGI Chair 2017, Abigail Page:
"Our members are the heart of the AGI, and the AGI Council comprises 15 members – all determined and enthusiastic about making a difference to our industry. Council represents the diversity of our members, provides strategic direction to our organisation, and enables our organisation to work as ambassadors for the value of GI and the geospatial industry in the UK.
In the ever-changing digital world, the AGI recognises it must adapt to members needs and expectations. As a result, much our focus for 2017 concentrated on our MOU with the RGS, the transformation of our office operations, and a review of our business model. I am confident that this work has put us in a strong position to influence, inform and act on behalf of our members and industry.
Looking towards 2018, our focus will be on two key topics: membership engagement and industry advocacy. If you’re interested in helping shape the AGI’s future, we encourage you to consider becoming a Council member – no matter which sector you’re working in, or your previous experience. To ensure we maintain a balanced and functional Council, we would be pleased to be joined by people with skill and expertise in finance, marketing, events promotion and motivating volunteers. Nominations of those with a background in SMEs would be particularly welcome.
A position on AGI Council is sometimes challenging. It needs commitment and enthusiasm, but the opportunity to work with a fantastic team of technical and business leaders from across our industry offers both personal and collective rewards.
For more insight into AGI Council roles and our plans for 2018, I encourage engagement with any member of the AGI Council who’ll be happy to talk these through with you in more detail."
Eight places will become vacant on AGI Council at the end of 2017. One is reserved for nominations to represent Northern Ireland; one is reserved to represent Wales. Both of these places are voted for by members from those countries. If we receive more than 8 nominations for the remaining places, then the full membership will be entitled to vote on those positions.
Those AGI Council members whose terms have ended or will end this year are as follows (the members entitled to re-election are marked with *:
Council comprises 15 places in all. The number of places vacant this year is less than the number of terms ending to maintain a Council of 15 members. AGI now welcomes nominations from any paid-up AGI member interested in standing for AGI Council. The period of service is for 3 years starting from 1st January 2018, and all those interested are recommended to attend our AGI AGM on 25th October at 5pm at Geovation.
