Did you know that Geography Awareness week & GIS Day are fast approaching?  Of course, you’re already planning how you’re going to spend it!

The AGI GeoCommunity conference is back in an all new virtual format, free to attend and open to anyone. It’s the perfect way to hear how geospatial can contribute to some of the biggest challenges of our time, from the local to global scale.  With the adoption of technology happening at pace, changing perceptions about data’s role, increasing internationalism and societal calls for change, we’ll be asking are we at the cusp of a revolution or simply continued rapid evolution?

Using the Remo interactive platform, these plenary sessions are must attend events to hear from inspiring speakers and build your own new connections in the virtual conference hall.

We’re pleased to announce our session themes and announce our first three speakers!

Tuesday 17 November - Changing Cityscapes

In this session we’ll hear how the way we use the urban landscape around us is changing, how we can shift our viewpoint to realise a new vision of sustainability and the role of location data in shaping new cityscapes. We’re delighted to announce that Pooran Desai, CEO of OnePlanet.com will be speaking in this session. Pooran is a serial entrepreneur, author and sustainability leader.

Wednesday 18 November - Changing Global Perspectives

Shifting scale, we’ll be looking at the Sustainable (R)Evolution beyond our own borders, to the planet as a whole. How can we take a truly global perspective in how we understand the world around us, where can we learn from others and what technology considerations should we make when exchanging location data internationally? Professor Sir Ian Diamond, the UK’s National Statistician will be sharing his thoughts in this session.

Thursday 19 November - Changing Experience of Location Data

To conclude the event, we’ll discuss the way in which phenomenal interest in geospatial is shaping the everyday experiences of location data. Attitudes to the use of location data are changing, how will this impact the geospatial community? Where is the potential to use location data in new ways to engage and inspire? We’ll be joined by Edwina Dunn, Commissioner of the Geospatial Commission & entrepreneur in the field of data science and customer-centric business strategy.

The conference hall will open at 12.30pm each day, allowing time to network in a virtual environment (you may have seen this at the UK Geospatial Strategy launch!) before our speakers take to the stage at 1pm. You’ll want to keep your diary free until 3pm when the session concludes.

We hope that spreading the content across the week will provide plenty of opportunity for you to join us for Geography Awareness week to discuss the role for geospatial in the Sustainable (R)Evolution!
