Wednesday 16th November, 69 local authorities across England and Wales are taking part in ‘Gazetteers@GIS Day’, an initiative that highlights the importance of location and how location information is created by councils.

Sentinel-2B, Europe´s next Copernicus satellite in Space, has successfully finished its test programme at ESA´s technology Centre ESTEC in Noordwijk, The Netherlands. The second Sentinel-2 Airbus built satellite will now be readied for shipment to the Kourou spaceport in French Guiana begin January 2017. It is scheduled for an early March 2017 lift-off on Vega.

Airbus Defence and Space, the world’s second largest space company, has finished construction of the first of the two GRACE-FO (GRACE = Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment, FO = Follow-On) satellites in Friedrichshafen, Germany. The satellite will now be transferred to Ottobrunn near Munich for several months of operational testing in the IABG test centre.

Emeritus Professor Ian Masser is set to receive the Global Spatial Data Infrastructure Global Citizen award during the Association’s Conference in Taipei, Taiwan on December 2nd 2016. ‘This is the greatest moment in my life’ he said, ‘I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard the news.’
