Following the implementation of the Collective Membership Agreement (CMA) between the Scottish Government and AGI, we are pleased to introduce Stuart Miller, AGI’s new Public Sector Membership Lead for Scotland.
The position has been established to encourage greater participation in the geospatial community and increase membership across Scotland’s Public Sector organisations. It forms part of the resources dedicated to delivering the CMA. A key objective is to strengthen Scotland’s position as a leader in geospatial innovation through enhanced collaboration, knowledge sharing, and community engagement.
Stuart brings nearly 40 years of experience across the public, education, and commercial geospatial sectors. He has been actively involved with the AGI and other professional and industry bodies for many years, supporting the development of the geospatial profession and its growing community.
Starting in August 2026, Stuart’s role is focused on increasing awareness of AGI across Scotland’s public sector and ensuring that organisations can fully access and benefit from AGI’s extensive resources, networks, events, and professional development opportunities.
A Message from Stuart
“The majority of my career has involved addressing the challenges presented by rapid technological change and supporting the adoption of geospatial capabilities across both public policy and commercial sectors.
Working across multiple disciplines, I have witnessed, since the 1980s, a series of major digital disruptions that have transformed how organisations operate and use geographic information. Throughout this period, I have been working with organisations that had to continually adapt to new technologies, methodologies, and modify ways of working and reporting. The challenges currently facing the Public Sector are every bit as significant as those experienced during the last four decades.
I began my geospatial career during a period of major investment in spatial and non-graphical data acquisition within large mapping programmes. Over the years, I have been fortunate to work on diverse geospatial projects across all five continents, gaining experience in a wide range of operational and strategic environments.
My professional experience spans the introduction of digital mapping and geographic databases, GPS and satellite positioning technologies, web mapping, Earth Observation integration, location-based services, and, more recently, advanced spatial analytics and GeoAI. I am delighted to be supporting AGI Scotland and the Scottish Government in broadening professional participation and strengthening Scotland’s geospatial community.”
We are delighted to welcome Stuart to the AGI team and look forward to working closely with him as we continue to strengthen engagement across Scotland’s geospatial community and maximise the opportunities created through the CMA.
If you’re part of a PSGA organisation and would like to find out more about the opportunities available through the AGI, Stuart would be delighted to hear from you. Please get in touch at stuart.miller@agi.org.uk
