The AGI ECN have been busy since our last newsletter, between our own webinar and attending events and conferences across the UK!
Webinar: “What can Geospatial Organisations offer you?”
The AGI Early Careers Network held its first event of 2025 in April, our “What can Geospatial Organisations offer you?” webinar.
It was fantastic to see such a strong turnout at the event. The webinar explored the support and opportunities available to early career professionals in the sector.
A huge thank you to our brilliant line-up of speakers.
Paul Naylor – British Cartographic Society
Liz Fox-Tucker MRes, CGeog – Royal Geographical Society (with IBG)
Bob Chell – Association for Geographic Information (AGI)
If you have any questions that weren’t answered during the event, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Reflection from Geobusiness
Co-Chair Tom Perks attended Geobusiness and provided his reflection of the event:
“It was fantastic to return to GeoBusiness in 2025, representing the AGI Early Careers Network. Highlights included hearing about the progress on the AGI Foresight Project, attending the Women in Geospatial+ networking session and handing out the AGI Early Career Professional of the Year award!”
Reflection from the Esri conference
Committee member, Will Jones attended the ESRI Conference this year. He provided some insight about the day:
“Attending the ESRI UK User Conference is always a highlight. It’s a fantastic opportunity to meet and reconnect with like-minded geospatial professionals, both new and familiar. The sessions I attended were insightful and provided plenty of inspiration and fresh ideas to take back into my work.
It was also a pleasure to catch up with some of our ECN members throughout the day—I hope you found the experience as enjoyable and valuable as I did.”
GGP Award Winners
The Early Careers Network collaborated with the Government Geography Profession for the ‘Rising Star’ award 2025. The winners were announced in May at Geovation in London.
Congratulations to Jasmine Elliot (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs), Tyde D’Souza (Office for National Statistics), and Gabriella Fasoli (Natural England), who have each been recognised for going above and beyond what is expected in the first five years of a geography career, or championing the value of applying a geographic approach.
AGI NI Conference
Social Media and Communications Officer, Emma Scott attended the AGI NI Conference on 12th June.
Emma reflected on the day:
“I had the pleasure of attending the AGI NI Annual Conference, “Bridging the Divide: Advancing Geospatial Collaboration and Interoperability”, held at Riddel Hall, Queen’s University Belfast.
It was a fantastic day filled with insightful presentations and valuable networking opportunities. This year’s event was the largest AGI NI Conference to date, and it truly delivered!
A huge thank you to the organisers, speakers, and sponsors for making it such a memorable and impactful experience.”
