London, 15 July 2025 – The Association for Geographic Information, has published the agenda for its 2025 GeoCymru Annual Conference. Under the theme ‘Geospatial Solutions for the Built Environment’, the event will take place on Thursday the 9th October at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, and, with early-bird offers, student reductions, and limited places, early registration is being encouraged and can be completed online.
“This annual event is a focal point for the geo-community in Wales offering the opportunity to come together and explore key geographical topics that are important to our members, from tackling environmental issues to discovering how geospatial supports our everyday and working lives,” commented Phil Barlow AGI Cymru Co-Chair. “We are therefore thankful to our presenters and sponsors who are contributing to an exciting agenda and a great opportunity for networking and peer to peer discussions.”
AGI GeoCymru will feature keynote presentations from Professor Scott Orford of Cardiff University who will talk about the Public Map Platform, a two-year research initiative, led by Cambridge University, that uses open mapping processes to enable communities to show what’s important to them and have a voice in planning their places. This project is based on Ynys Môn / The Isle of Anglesey, and is part of the Future Observatory. Gayle Lister, of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, will present a second keynote looking at planning for the conservation and enhancement of dark skies in Wales.
Joining them on the 9th October, will be Nicolas Kinsella of Ulster University who will explore how methane super-emitters are being tracked from space for a cleaner energy sector, Richard Flemmings of Map Impact, who will present on climate risks in the built environment and Joe Hillard of the National Trust describing his work with the HART (heritage and Archaeology Ranger Team) Programme. James Wardroper of Ordnance Survey will reveal the work to date creating and implementing the National Underground Asset Register (NUAR), and Hannah Brooks of GeoPlace will explore policy principles to support the effective use of address data.
Additional presentations will be given by event sponsors Esri UK, CGI, Europa Technologies, GeoPlace and Astun Technology, and AGI Cymru would also like to thank Avineon Tensing and Bluesky International for their support.
