On Tuesday 7th October, the AGI Early Careers Network hosted an insightful webinar “Exploring Geospatial Career Pathways”, in collaboration with CGI.
The session began with an introduction to CGI’s geospatial practice from Pascal Coulon, Vice-President Consulting Expert, covering the wide range of geospatial projects that CGI is involved in. This was followed by Emma Tarleton, Early Careers Lead at CGI, who shared valuable insight on early career development and recruitment. As well as discussing upcoming opportunities at CGI, Emma also discussed how a standout candidate is not solely about academic background or qualifications, but also about attitude, curiosity, and soft skills.
The event then moved into a panel discussion format, featuring four early-career professionals from CGI, each with their own unique career journey. Each panellist shared their pathway into the geospatial field, offering reflections on their experiences, challenges, and proudest achievements. The panel was moderated by AGI ECN Secretary Douglas Leno, who facilitated a Q&A session with excellent questions from the audience.
Topics ranged from navigating early career challenges to the evolving role of AI and cybersecurity in geospatial work. The panellists also explored whether they identify more as geospatial specialists or technical professionals.
A huge thank you to CGI for partnering with the Early Careers Networks to deliver an informative and enjoyable session. It was a great opportunity for attendees to gain real-world insights into geospatial careers and connect with professionals in the industry.
