Avineon Tensing Appointed to Ordnance Survey’s four year, multi-million-pound Geospatial Content Enhancement Framework

Avineon Tensing, a specialist in spatial data management and geographic information systems (GIS), today announces its appointment to Ordnance Survey’s (OS) Geospatial Content Enhancement (GCE) Framework.

Following a competitive public tender process (Notice: 009065-2026), the company is one of three suppliers chosen for the four-year, multi-million-pound initiative. The contract will begin on 1 April 2026, providing Ordnance Survey with the necessary resources to collect, refine and maintain the highly accurate geospatial data that maps Great Britain.

Supporting the OS National Geographic Database

As part of the GCE Framework, Avineon Tensing’s consultants and engineers will carry out detailed desk-based data activities to update the OS National Geographic Database (NGD). The core responsibilities include:

  • Interpreting and extracting information from aerial imagery, remote sensing data, and pre-created features.
  • Updating existing OS geospatial datasets to meet the exact requirements of the National Cyclic Revision (NCR) specification.
  • Investigating and combining information from third-party, non-OS datasets to meet the changing needs of OS customers.

Focusing on Automation and Process Improvement

Ordnance Survey requires more than standard data capture for this framework; the agency has asked suppliers to bring fresh ideas and modernise existing processes. Avineon Tensing will draw on its extensive background in spatial data engineering and automated workflows to help OS achieve these goals.

By applying practical automation techniques and incorporating third-party datasets into the supply chain, Avineon Tensing will help speed up the delivery of accurate location data. The objective is to improve efficiency while maintaining the high standards of accuracy that Ordnance Survey is known for globally.

“Being chosen by Ordnance Survey to help maintain the National Geographic Database is a proud moment for our team,” said David Eagle, Director of Delivery at Avineon Tensing. “We look forward to applying our practical experience to ensure Great Britain’s mapping data remains accurate and reliable for the people who depend on it.”

The information produced and managed through the GCE Framework will be securely stored and distributed across Ordnance Survey’s current and future product ranges. This data forms the backbone of daily decision-making for UK government departments, emergency services, infrastructure planners, and businesses across the country.
