CGI (NYSE: GIB) (TSX: GIB.A), one of the largest independent IT and business consulting services firms in the world, will work in partnership with NHS Scotland to deliver a user-centred digital platform acting as a primary entry point for patients to access the health and care services they need. BJSS, now part of CGI, has secured the contract to be the ‘Digital Front Door’ (DFD) Delivery Partner for NHS Education for Scotland (NES). NES is a national health board responsible for digital health development and education across NHS Scotland. CGI will support the first phase of the Digital Front Door roll-out—an online service accessible on any device for selected specialties within NHS Lanarkshire.
The DFD is part of a key commitment laid out in the Scottish Government’s Programme for Government, the First Minister’s statement on Renewal in January, and subsequent Operational Improvement Plan. It will give people in Scotland straightforward online access to personalised health and care information across primary, secondary and social care, community mental health, screening and vaccinations, in addition to a range of other channels. Following the DFD launch in Lanarkshire, dermatology outpatients will also be able to track their care and treatment progress online.
“We’re proud to be working with NES and NHS Lanarkshire to deliver the Digital Front Door—an important step towards more inclusive, person-centred care in Scotland. This is a bold example of digital innovation supporting better access, empowering people, and easing pressure on services—and we’re excited to help bring it to more communities across Scotland.” said Lindsay McGranaghan, Senior Vice-President and Business Unit Lead for Scotland and Northern Ireland at CGI.
Following the successful rollout of the first phase of the DFD in Lanarkshire, CGI will work with NES to evaluate feedback and insight. These insights will be used to inform a wider national launch across other health and care organisations in Scotland, in line with a national rollout plan being published later this year.
“The Digital Front Door will be a significant digital development in health and social care in Scotland and represents a major investment in reshaping how people interact with data and services. We have reiterated our commitment to delivering digital service options in our Programme for Government, recognising the potential for empowering people, improving access, and delivering capacity for our staff and our services,” said Scotland’s Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Neil Gray.
“In line with industry good practice, the new service will be tested and established in one area before being developed and rolled out across Scotland. Along with NES and CGI we are working closely with other organisations and will publish a national roll-out plan later in the summer.”
