The AGI’s Mission and Role

Our mission is to nurture, create and support a thriving UK Geospatial Community, actively supporting a sustainable future

Our Mission

We aim to achieve our mission through the three pillars that govern our activities and intentions; to nurture and connect active GI communities, to support career and skills development for GI Professionals, and to provide thought leadership to inspire future generations.

Our Role

Our role is to provide the tools and knowledge our members need as the world of geospatial acts upon the challenges faced by both the planet its population.

We are here to serve our community of individual and corporate members who use and benefit from geographic information. We do this by leading, connecting, and developing.

Understanding “where” in our world has never been more relevant or important and with over 2,700 individual and organisation level members, we provide a strong professional network which challenges the future direction of GI.

We support our members, whether they are just starting a geospatial career or have many years of experience, and we work professionally and collaboratively with partners, members, and wider industry, providing thought leadership and maximising the benefits delivered by geospatial and geographic information.

AGI 2030: A Statement of Intent

By 2030, the Association for Geographic Information (AGI) will be recognised as the UK’s leading convenor of the geospatial community, bringing people together to share insight, explore challenges and shape how geographic information is valued and applied.

The AGI provides trusted spaces where informed discussion can happen and diverse perspectives are connected. Through convening the community, we will remain relevant and influential, helping the sector articulate its value and respond to rapid technological and societal change.

The AGI thrives on the energy, expertise and commitment of its volunteers. Our community is strongest when members actively contribute, by sharing knowledge, leading conversations and supporting one another.

The AGI will continue to support skills and career development, helping people remain confident and capable in an increasingly embedded geospatial world.

By 2030, the AGI will connect 5,000 individual members, drawn to us by the strength of our networks, events and outputs, and by our role as an independent, respected voice at the heart of the UK geospatial community.

Join us and discover the power of community as we work together for a sustainable future
