The Association for Geographic Information
Code of Conduct

As a professional organisation committed to nurturing geospatial communities, supporting career development, and providing thought leadership, we are dedicated to creating a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative environment for all. This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for behaviour within our community and applies to all members, partners, staff, volunteers, and participants in our events, programmes, and online spaces.

Respect and Inclusion

We are committed to fostering a culture where everyone feels welcome and valued. We will all:

  • Treat all individuals with dignity, respect, and kindness.
  • Embrace and celebrate diversity in all its forms, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, age, disability status, neurodiversity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, religion, and geographic location.
  • Use inclusive language and avoid assumptions about others’ identities or experiences.
  • Actively seek out and value perspectives that differ from our own to enhance our collective understanding of the geospatial landscape.

Equity and Accessibility

We strive to ensure equitable access to opportunities and resources. We will all:

  • Maintain high standards for digital and physical accessibility, ensuring that wherever possible participation is not limited by geography, disability, or financial barriers.
  • Encourage members to let the AGI know if they see barriers to inclusion or equity.

Professionalism and Integrity

We expect all members of our community to:

  • Engage constructively and professionally in discussions and debates, even when opinions differ.
  • Give credit where it is due and respect intellectual property.
  • Avoid conflicts of interest and disclose them when they arise.

Safe and Supportive Environment

We are committed to maintaining a safe environment free from harassment, discrimination, and bullying.

  • Harassment, intimidation, or exclusionary behaviour will not be tolerated.
  • This includes unwelcome verbal, physical, or visual conduct, whether in person or online.
  • If you experience or witness inappropriate behaviour, report it to the AGI (details below)

Accountability and Continuous Improvement

We hold ourselves and each other accountable to these standards.

  • We welcome feedback and are committed to learning and improving.
  • Reports will be investigated by the Council Chair or the EDI Lead in a timely and confidential manner. We are committed to a transparent process that prioritises the safety and dignity of the reporter.
  • Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in appropriate actions, including warnings, removal from events, or revocation of membership, depending on the severity of the issue.
